Mower Changes Direction with No Visible Reason

Step 1 – In the mower’s menu, go to Service ⇢ Information ⇢ Special Display⇢ Behavior.

Press the Escape button Escape Button to toggle between user menus and the special display screen that was selected. Send the mower to work in Scan mode (Skip the Edge) and press the Escape button Escape Button again to toggle back to the Behavior screen while the mower mows, for observation.

Check value #2 (upper line, second value from the left). While the mower changes direction in a place which it should not change (such as the middle of the lawn and no apparent obstacle), observe value #2 shown on the screen and locate its number and meaning in the below table.

If Yes – This cannot happen in a real situation because the mower should reach a wire or hit an obstacle after a few minutes of driving, indicating the mower got hung with the wheels spinning freely. Locate where this occurred and fix this installation issue (raised roots, etc.)

If No – Test Drive motors and if needed, replace parts in this order: Drive Motors, Main Board, Wire Harness between them.

If Yes – This is normal operation.

If No – Check the wire count in the Special Display ⇢ Wire Sensors ⇢ Values #2 and #6 (Left & Right count). If the values are 420-450 in the middle of the lawn while the mower mows, and the mower is 2014 configuration – Upgrade it to the latest published S/W. Contact customer support.

If Yes – This is normal operation.

If No – Perform Bumper calibration and run the mower again in Behavior mode. If this occurs again, see the article Bumper Pressed message.

If No – Clean the front wheel area to allow the wheel free rotation, and run the mower again in Behavior mode. If this happens again, replace parts in this order: Front Wheel, Front Board, Main Board, Wire Harness between them.

If Yes – Remove debris that may be halting the wheel(s) free rotation and run the mower again in Behavior mode. If this happens again, see article Drive Overheat, Overcurrent or Disconnected.

If No – Mowers from 2014 configuration, change Service Settings as follows:

  1. Service ⇢ Settings ⇢ Drive Motors ⇢ Over Current ⇢ Sensitivity. Change from 3A to 4A.
  2. Service ⇢ Settings ⇢ Drive Motors ⇢ Over Current ⇢ Time. Change from 3 Sec. to 5 Sec.

If Yes – This is normal function.

If No – Perform Tilt calibration and run the mower again in Behavior mode. If this occurs again, Replace the Main Board.

If Yes – Perform S/W factory default reset: Service ⇢ Settings ⇢ Factory Default ⇢ Software. Run the mower again in Behavior mode. If this occurs again, make sure docking light is blinking green when mower is operating and then Replace the Main Board.
